ALCHEMETAL ANNOUNCES WATER BASED CONDUCTIVE SOLDERABLE POLYMER AC- H20

January, 2007. Alchemetal announces the development of a water based conductive polymer coating formula; AC - H20.The advantage of the newformulation is that the solvent level is less than half of that in AC-78, yet performance characteristics remain the same. Laboratory tests conducted at CEPM, CUNY comparing characteristics for AC-78 and AC-H20 showed no difference in conductivity and adhesion. Range of performance at both high and low temperature scales matched.

AC-78 is a multipurpose conductive and electroplate-able nickel base polymer. Alchemetal has succeeded in making solder-less bumping connections by uniting unlimited numbers of surfaces together during the polymer cure. The bonded surface proved reliable and able to operate at 310 degree C without failing. The process is fast and efficient and unlike lead-tin solder, the copolymer attachment has the advantage of being integrated into the substrate and is strong enough to pass cross hatch pull tests. Further
investigation shows that the product can be used in applications that require multilayering, screen printing and also in through hole design techniques. It is also used on glass, ceramics and fiberglass substrates. Once applied and cured, Alchemetal’s coating, AC-78, changes a given substrate’s surface characteristics. As a result, the surface becomes conductive, and electro- platable, corrosion resistant as well as an RFI/EMI shield. Low in cost, AC-78 delivers a unique set of core functional characteristics that may be applied to an almost unlimited number of substrates. These attributes mean that AC-78 may replace many current high-cost coatings or simplify costly multilayer coating processes for sophisticated electronic applications. Further, AC-78 enables product development engineers to combine currently incompatible materials, creating possibilities for new technologies and new markets. Currently AC-78 is being used in the fuel cell industry as a non-corrosive alternative to gold electroplate. It is also being used to inexpensively electroplate glass and teflon and boron nitride.

Alchemetal Corp. is located in New York. The company president, Ed Greenwood is considered one of the ranking experts in this field of RFI/EMC filters. Prior to founding Alchemetal Corporation, Mr. Greenwood was the President of Fil-Coil Inc. More information about Alchemetal can be found on the web at : www.alchemetal.com
