APPLICATIONS

Fuel Cells-Capacitors / Resistors-Smart Sensoring-Conductive Ink-Electroplating

Printed Circuit Boards

AC-78 and Alchemetal H-20 are environmentally friendly. Used in the printed circuit board industry for multi-layering, solder less bumping and through hole design, FR-4 boards can be electroplated over the Alchemetal base coat.

Electroplating

AC-78 is a conductive and electroplate-able nickel based polymer which has shown excellent adhesion to materials such as plastic, glass, fiberglass, ceramic, aluminum, titanium and all other metals. Tests show AC-78 makes glass conductive and able to be soldered.

Hard to Coat Surfaces

AC-78 offers excellent adhesion on substrates that usually present difficulties in coating such as titanium, ceramic, wood, glass and plastic. Attachments can be made simultaneously by bumping during the polymer curing process. Substrates are coated and cured together creating a secure electrical and mechanical connection. click image for more information

High Temperature Applications

Alchemetal coatings can be applied to thin, flexible substrates. It can be electroplated for even higher conductivity. The bonded surface is reliable and able to operate at 260 degree C (500 F) without failing. It can survive brief exposure to 454°C (850°F) without significant damage or severe loss of properties. Ideal applications include heat sensors and heat sinks.

Fuel Cells

AC-300. Alchemetal, manufactures conductive and corrosion resistant coatings for fuel cells. The conductivity and corrosion resistance of our graphite-based AC-300 coating is an ideal choice for protecting the electrodes and other components within a hydrogen fuel cell. AC-300 offers the further benefit of grounding the fuel cell and protecting it from accidental explosion.

Rust Resistance and RFI Shielding

AC-78 provides exceptional adhesion, conductivity, corrosion resistance.Applied on a steel substrate with a thickness of 1-2 mils, AC-78 passed a fog test (ASTM B117) for a 1,000 hours in a PRCA salt spray chamber (5% salt solution, 95% humidity at 75°F) with no sign of rusting. can be soldered and acts as an RFI/EMC shield to electric and magnetic fields. The attenuation is comparable to conductive nickel paint:If applied at 3 mils thickness and measured between the frequency of 3 MHz to 1 GHz the attenuation is approx. 40 dB (measured in a dual chamber test setup) or 50 dB (transmission line test setup) respectively.click here for more information.

Conductive Inks

AC-78 coating offers a cost efficient alternative for conductive inks in cases where 0.5 ohms/square/mil is sufficient. AC-78 performs equally well as silver where resistance is not a critical issue. It can be silk screened or sprayed using a template. AC-78 provides excellent adhesion and can be electroplated.
